Colleges In The Nevada State: The College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas

Education is a very important aspect of any person's life, even within the city of Las Vegas in Nevada, which is also known as the “Entertainment Capital of The World”. Las Vegas may be known for its bright lights, elegant casinos, expensive resorts and hotels, and fabulous events and performances, but its citizens also want to make sure that their children are getting the necessary, quality education that they deserve to have. For this reason, community colleges have been set up around and within Las Vegas.

A community college is an educational facility which sets out to provide a lower-level type of tertiary education and higher education to teenagers. This institution grants Associate degrees to its students, and gives out certificate and diplomas. Community colleges are usually supported and funded by local communities through their property taxes, and they accept student enrollees from within the local community.

There are several community colleges which are within the Nevada state. The City of Reno has the Truckee Meadows Community College. On the Western Nevada area, the Western Nevada College is popular, and has campuses within Carson City, Fallon, Minden, and several instructional centers in places such as Hawthorne, Lake Tahoe, Smith Valley and Dayton. On the other hand, the Southern, Las Vegas area has the College of Southern Nevada or the CSN.

The CSN is considered the largest higher learning educational institution in the state of Nevada, and is also the fourth largest community college in the whole U.S. It was founded back in 1971, as the Clark County Community College. In 1978, it changed its name to the Community College of Southern Nevada, but was then changed in 2007 to just the College of Southern Nevada. Within the Las Vegas area, CSN has three campuses, all located within the residential places in the city. The Las Vegas campuses are located on West Charleston, Cheyenne Avenue and Henderson Avenue.

CSN prides itself into giving quality education to its Las Vegas students. It currently offers two-year and four-year degree programs, in different educational disciplines.
